The following links are places that I have been that were useful to me and may be useful to you. Many of them were found by students in my Internet Classes at Holiday Park Senior Center in Wheaton, Maryland.

Search Engines

• Yahoo The first, and still one of the most popular search engines. It is oriented primarily towards hierarchical searching. (i.e., organized by subject with more and more detailed information like a file cabinet.) It is also an excellent Portal and has many useful features. Give it a go.
• Google This search engine uses links to select relevant sites. It's worked well for me. This is the most recommended search engine on the Internet
• AltaVista One of the old standbys -- It has been revitalized and is once again one of the better search engines.
• Excite One of the good Portals -- There is a lot there to see and do. Searching is just one of them.
• Lycos
• WebCrawler This is one of of those "multiple search engine search sites. WebCrawler uses eight different search engines for its search and then arranges the search results for you.
• MetaCrawler Works like WebCrawler.
• DogPile Another meta-search engine like WebCrawler and MetaCrawler.
• Ask Jeeves! This is a fun search engine. It keeps giving you multiple choice questions to get down o the pages that you are looking for. Try it!
• About Another heirarchical search engine.
• Free MEDLINE: PubMed and Internet Grateful Med The web site for The National Library of Medicine. This is an excellent place to go for drug and medical information.
• Google Groups -- This site is designed by Google to search newsgroups. It is an outgrowth of deja.com. It searches news sites (forums) rather than web pages.
